I think everyone in attendance at the 3rd Quinte tweet-up (or “the Next Quinte Tweet-Up” as I’ve come to realize it was being called) last Thursday left the Boathouse Restaurant impressed.
What started as another excuse to just get together casually with other local tweeters and hang out quickly snowballed into an all-out shindig when Engine Communications and Loyalist PR joined forces on the project. Held at the Boathouse just off of the Bay of Quinte in Belleville (Always an excellent venue. If you live in or around the area and haven’t been yet, be sure to put it in your plans) the night was fun an laid-back with a touch of class.
The incredibly talented Lucas and Melissa of Winding Violets Photography captured candid shots of attendees as we ate, drank and were merry (You can’t help but feel kind of special when you’ve got a couple of pro photographers snapping shots of you as you sip on delicious local wine with friends!). The prize table was impressively stocked and everyone was able to walk away with something by the end of the night (I won a copy of Chris Brogan’s Trust Agents, which I was pretty excited about considering that I’ve been meaning to pick it up for a while). A collection jar was even set up to raise money for relief in Haiti. It was looking pretty healthy the last time I saw it, although I’d love to find out what the final total was (can anyone help me out here?)
To sum up my two main take-aways from the night:
1) Meeting new people at tweet-ups is such an interesting experience. I don’t know if you ever get over the feeling of having someone approach you and say, “I know you from Twitter! I’m @WickedUserName!” A kind of introduction that would normally seem kind of disconcerting (Let’s be honest) is not only totally acceptable but also leads to some great friendships!
2) It is so great to see that the local Twitter community is growing! The night was a success for a lot of reasons, including having a great turn out. Each event seems to get bigger and bigger, allowing us to establish greater connections within our community. It’s an awesome feeling
So, thanks to everyone who came out and made the night possible and wonderful! Be sure to catch up with all of the great local tweeters who came out:
