Ever since I really started to focus on my personal brand, I’ve been thinking about getting some nice, professionally shot photos of myself done. I figured that having some on profiles and such where I’m not making a weird face would be beneficial. I mean, not that I personally take issue with making weird faces in photos, I’m just not sure it’s the most professional way that I could be representing myself…
I always had a basic idea of what I was looking for, so many months ago I started looking for the right local photographer for the job. As it turned out, something so seemingly simple was more of a challenge than I had originally anticipated. Some people that I spoke with didn’t really seem to understand what I was asking for while others were just down-right unpleasant. I learned very quickly that photography is too personal an experience to hand off to just anybody and after a while I started to doubt that I’d ever find the right person.
Perhaps then I should call it destiny that I didn’t settle for anyone right away, because if I had, I might have missed the chance to work with the incredibly talented team of Lucas and Melissa of Winding Violets.
Based out of Kingston, I was introduced to the creative pair when they started coming out to photograph the local tweet-ups (See related posts here and here). I fell in love with their work and was really taken by their involvement. It took me all of zero seconds to realize that I had found the photographers I had been looking for.
I had my shoot this afternoon in Belleville and I have to say, the whole process has been a dream. From my initial contact with Lucas, who knew exactly what I was looking for and provided me with exactly the right kind of information and advice that I needed to prepare for the shoot, to the shoot itself – Working with these two has been so much fun. They ask questions, they get to know you and they make sure that you’re having a good time. Honestly, by the time we had wrapped up, knowing that I would be getting some great photos just seemed like the cherry on top of an awesome experience.
I’m headed to the Violets’ studio in Kingston this weekend to officially check out my shots. I’m ridiculously excited and can’t wait to see the final products (And then share some of them with all of you, obviously!). Until then, I highly recommend checking out their website (Be sure to check out the super adorable “About Us” slideshow!), becoming a fan on Facebook and following them on Twitter. After browsing through their beautiful albums and portfolio, you’ll probably want to book your own appointment asap!
